Headline inflation remained steady at 2.4 per cent for the 12 months to April but was slightly hotter than forecast. The Reserve Bank's preferred measure of underlying inflation, the trimmed mean, rose from 2.7 per cent in the year to March to 2.8 per cent last month. The RBA board will be watching inflation when making monetary policy decision, with the next quarterly figures to be released in late July — after its next meeting.
