The village of Blatten, located in Switzerland’s Wallis region, faced a devastating disaster when the Birch Glacier suddenly collapsed. On Wednesday, 3 million cubic meters of ice and debris surged into the valley, blocking the Lonza River and creating a small lake, leaving the village in ruins. One person has been reported missing, but thanks to prior evacuations, no other casualties have been reported.
