Bhubaneswar, Odisha: In a dramatic turn of events, Vigilance officials raided seven locations linked to Baikunthanath Sarangi, Chief Engineer in Odisha’s Rural Development Department, just a day before his retirement. The raids led to the seizure of ₹2.51 crore in cash.
The operation took an unexpected twist when Sarangi, in a desperate move, allegedly threw bundles of ₹500 notes from his flat, apparently attempting to dispose of incriminating evidence. The cash was later recovered by officials.
Baikunthanath Sarangi is scheduled to retire on May 31. The raid and cash recovery have raised serious questions about corruption and misuse of office at senior levels of the state bureaucracy.
The Odisha Vigilance Department has confirmed the seizure and stated that further investigation is underway to trace the source and purpose of the massive cash haul.
