Amazon plans to invest $10 billion in new data centers in North Carolina to boost its artificial intelligence infrastructure, according to CNBC. Amazon has allocated up to $100 billion in capital expenditures for 2025, primarily targeting AI-related projects. The company rapidly expands its AI capabilities to stay competitive with Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy described generative AI as a “once-in-a-lifetime type of business opportunity.” The company said its North Carolina investment will create approximately 500 jobs in the state and support the growing demand for generative AI. Amazon has launched various generative AI products over the past year, including language models, Trainium chips, a shopping chatbot, and the Bedrock model marketplace. The company also invested $8 billion in AI startup Anthropic, the creator of the Claude chatbot. In January, Amazon announced plans to invest at least $11 billion in Georgia to build data centers supporting cloud computing and AI demand.
