Leanna Coy, a flight attendant from Connecticut, shared a tip on her TikTok profile for passengers who are approached by other travelers asking to switch seats on a plane.
She warned about the potential risks involved in changing seats with someone, which could lead to serious problems.
“If the person you switched with does something wrong on the plane, it could end up falling on you,” the flight attendant said in the video, which has already garnered nearly 20,000 views.
Coy shared a negative experience she had after switching seats with someone on a United Airlines flight to Jordan.
“If you know anything about United’s service — to buy drinks or anything onboard — you have to pre-register your card on the app, which I had already done,” Coy explained.
She then said she was shocked to learn that the passenger could technically gain access to her payment card after the seat swap.
“Do I think this woman was trying to scam me and use my card? No,” she noted. “But it’s something to be aware of,” she warned.
Coy also pointed out that if the woman had decided, for example, to smoke in the bathroom or do something illegal, she herself could have been held responsible — “because my name would still be on the passenger manifest,” she recalled.
She concluded by saying that someone else’s lack of planning shouldn’t mean she has to give up her assigned seat.
