Imphal (Manipur), June 08, 2025 (ANI): As widespread protest triggered across Imphal after the arrest of Arambai Tenggol’s fighting commander Asem Kanan, Heavy security deployed across Manipur Capital, Imphal following the protest. Latest visuals from East and West Imphal showed the aftermath of overnight violence that erupted in five districts of the state. Meanwhile, a total curfew has been imposed in the Bishnupur district of Manipur on June 7. Manipur govt also ordered the suspension of internet and mobile data services in five districts for five days on June 7. Notably, AT members, Meira Paibi groups and local residents were protested against Asem Kanan’s arrest on June 07. They claimed that after imposition of President's Rule in the state, they voluntarily began surrendering arms as per Guv's appeal. However, the recent arrest of their members, especially after disarming, was a betrayal and unjust targeting, they alleged. Asem Kanan was arrested by the National Investigation Agency and Joint Security Forces in Imphal West on June 7.
