A major mishap was narrowly avoided on the Gorakhpur–Sonauli highway in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, when a car using Google Maps drove onto an under-construction flyover and got stuck. The incident took place near Farenda around 1 AM on Sunday.
The Lucknow-registered car was en route to Sonauli when Google Maps guided it onto the unfinished flyover. With no barricades or warning signs in place, the car went over the edge but stopped just in time. All three occupants, residents of Gorakhpur, escaped unhurt.
Police and rescue teams arrived promptly, and the car was removed with help from the construction agency. Locals blamed the lack of signage and barricading, while this adds to growing concerns over overreliance on GPS navigation.
Earlier, a similar Google Maps mishap in Bareilly led to the death of three people after their car fell from an incomplete bridge.
