Google Cloud experienced widespread outages Thursday afternoon, disrupting services for major platforms including Spotify, Discord, Snapchat, Etsy, and OpenAI. According to Engadget, the issues began around 2 PM Eastern time and stemmed from infrastructure problems in the us-central1 region, Google said. The company applied mitigations and reported recovery in most regions by 4:16 PM Eastern time but acknowledged ongoing issues for some users. Spotify, Discord, Snapchat, Etsy, UPS, and OpenAI, saw a surge in outage reports on DownDetector during the disruption. Snapchat confirmed the issues on its support page, while OpenAI warned users of login trouble due to problems with external internet providers. Most services had resumed normal operations by 5 PM Eastern time.
