Meta has acquired a 49% stake in Scale AI for $14.3 billion, valuing the data-labeling firm at $29 billion, according to Reuters. The deal brings Scale CEO Alexandr Wang aboard to lead Meta’s new superintelligence division. Meta said it will expand its AI data collaboration with Scale and that Alexandr Wang will join the company to work on its superintelligence efforts. Founded in 2016, Scale supplies labeled data for AI tools like ChatGPT by using platforms like Remotasks and Outlier to manage gig workers for manual data labeling. The move marks Meta’s second-largest investment after WhatsApp and signals a shift in its AI strategy. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is betting on Alexandr Wang’s business leadership to revamp the company’s AI strategy.
