The German Krimi film vogue of the early 60s is sometimes considered the forerunner to Italy’s Giallo craze which came immediately after. The Carpet of Horror adapts another Edgar Wallace story, this one about a secret organization whose leader uses poison gas to kill off their various enemies. A secret service agent is on their trail. The story is convoluted and needlessly confusing, but the action never lags, moving everything along at a quick pace. Fans of any of the Mabuse films will find similar enjoyment with this pulpy thriller.
