Dua (Supplication) Before Sexual Intercourse in Islam:
In Islam, it's encouraged to begin every important action with the name of Allah, including sexual relations between husband and wife. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught a specific dua (prayer) for this.
Arabic Text:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ جَنِّبْنَا الشَّيْطَانَ، وَجَنِّبِ الشَّيْطَانَ مَا رَزَقْتَنَا
Transliteration:
Bismillāhi Allāhumma jannibnash-shayṭāna, wa jannibish-shayṭāna mā razaqtanā
English Translation:
"In the name of Allah. O Allah, keep the devil away from us and keep the devil away from what You may grant us (children)."
Explanation:
This dua is sunnah (practice of the Prophet ﷺ).
It should be recited before beginning sexual intercourse.
The purpose is to seek protection from Shaytan (Satan).
If a child is conceived, this dua helps ensure that the child is not influenced by Shaytan from birth.
Islamic Reference:
Narrated by Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه):
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“If any one of you says, when he has intercourse with his wife:
'In the name of Allah, O Allah, keep the devil away from us and keep the devil away from what You may grant us',
and if it is decreed that they should have a child, then the devil will never harm him.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 141)
