Tourists dismayed as top of Eiffel Tower closes due to heat
The management of the Eiffel Tower closed its highest level to visitors due to a heatwave gripping Paris on Tuesday, July 1, leaving tourists hoping to visit the top of the landmark disappointed. As well as the closure of the upper level at the 330-meter (1082 feet) high structure, authorities also said it would close early.
The heat was set to peak in France on Tuesday, reaching 40-41 degrees Celsius (101-105 Fahrenheit) in some areas and 36-39 C in many others, weather forecaster Meteo France said.
Sixteen departments will be on the highest level of alert from noon, with 68 on the second highest.
