Creating Custom Railing Types
1. Duplicate Existing Type: Go to Families > Railings > Top Rail Type or Handrail Type in the Project Browser. Double-click and duplicate a type to begin customizing.
2. Select Profile: Choose a 2D profile family, such as Round, Elliptical, Square, or Rectangular. For complex shapes, create a custom profile.
3. Set Extensions: Use extensions to make rails go beyond the railing limit. Options include Floor, Post, and Wall Sketch on Path or Place on Host.
Configuring Baluster Patterns
1. Baluster Placement: In the Railing Type properties, find Baluster Placement. Specify families for start, corner, and end posts. Choose None if no post is desired.
2. Post Settings: Set base and top offsets, spacing, and corner post locations (Each Segment End, Add Vertical/Horizontal segments, or Add No Connector).
Railing Creation
1. Sketch On Path: Draw a continuous purple line to create a railing outline.
2. Place On Host: Automatically create railings based on existing stairs or ramps. Choose placement on treads or stringers.¹ ²
Tips for Customization
- Use the Type Properties dialog to adjust railing settings, such as Top Rail and Handrail positions.
- Set rail height and offset distance for intermediate rails.
- Add materials to enhance visual appeal.
