बिहार से एक चौंकाने वाली रिपोर्ट सामने आई है, जिसने आगामी विधानसभा चुनावों से पहले सियासी भूचाल ला दिया है। जातिगत जनगणना के बाद जारी आंकड़ों से पता चला है कि बिहार के सीमांचल क्षेत्र के चार जिलों - किशनगंज, अररिया, कटिहार और पूर्णिया - में कुल आबादी से भी ज़्यादा आधार कार्ड बन चुके हैं। किशनगंज में यह आंकड़ा 105% तक पहुँच गया है, जो एक बड़े पैमाने पर फ़र्ज़ीवाड़े की ओर इशारा करता है।
रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार, इन फ़र्ज़ी आधार कार्डों का इस्तेमाल अवैध रूप से निवास प्रमाण पत्र बनाने के लिए किया गया है। यह मामला इसलिए और भी गंभीर हो जाता है क्योंकि यह क्षेत्र बांग्लादेश से हो रही घुसपैठ और तेजी से बदलते डेमोग्राफिक्स के कारण हमेशा चर्चा में रहा है। 1951 से 2011 के बीच इस इलाके में मुस्लिम आबादी में 16% की वृद्धि देखी गई थी, और हालिया जातिगत जनगणना में यह आंकड़ा किशनगंज में 68% और कुल सीमांचल में 47% तक पहुँच गया है।
इसी खुलासे के आधार पर चुनाव आयोग ने मतदाता सूची का विशेष गहन पुनरीक्षण अभियान शुरू किया है, जिसका विपक्षी महागठबंधन पुरजोर विरोध कर रहा है। विपक्ष का तर्क है कि उनके M-Y समीकरण वाले वोट बैंक को निशाना बनाया जा रहा है। वहीं, चुनाव आयोग का मानना है कि इन इलाकों में हज़ारों की संख्या में फ़र्ज़ी मतदाता हो सकते हैं, और यह अभियान इसी गड़बड़ी को साफ़ करने के लिए है। यह क्षेत्र सामरिक रूप से संवेदनशील 'सिलीगुड़ी कॉरिडोर' के पास होने के कारण यह मामला राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा से भी जुड़ गया है।
