New Delhi, July 16, 2025 (ANI): On Balasore student's death by self-immolation, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat said, "It is such a tragic case because it was such an avoidable death. The girl made a complaint of sexual harassment... The Internal Complaints Committee which was formed according to the law was absolutely compromised and pressurized her... When she found that not only the university authorities, but also the entire political ecosystem led by the BJP and student organization were not coming in support of her, she felt she had no alternative... It is very clearly a case of institutional murder which happened because of the callous negligence of the political authorities who should have intervened promptly and taken action against the university..."
