Kyoto, medieval era. Yone and her daughter-in-law Shige, living in a bamboo grove, are assaulted and killed by a group of lawless, dishonorable samurai, and their bodies are set on fire. Soon after, a black cat—the “kuroneko” of the title—appears and licks their corpses, bringing them back to the realm of the living as vengeful spirits, luring and slaughtering their tormentors one by one.
