Volcano Alert in Tenerife!
Spain is launching its first-ever volcanic eruption drill on the beloved tourist island of Tenerife, and it’s happening this Friday in Garachico. If you're a tourist or local, expect your phone to flash, beep, and vibrate with an emergency message — but don’t panic, it's just a test!
The ES-Alert system will send trial messages to all 4G and 5G phones in the area, even in English for non-Spanish speakers. This drill comes amid rising concerns about Mount Teide, the towering volcano that scientists say has a 40% chance of erupting within the next 50 years.
With signs like increased seismic activity and gas emissions, officials are preparing for the worst — without causing panic.
