New Zealand says it will not recognize Palestinian state at this time
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters says at the United Nations Headquarters on Sept. 26, 2025 that New Zealand will not recognize the State of Palestine at this time but remains committed to a two-state solution. New Zealand's position is out of step with traditional partners Australia, Canada and Britain who all recognized a Palestinian state last Sept. 21. The move aligned them with more than 140 other countries also backing Palestinians' aspiration to forge an independent homeland from the occupied territories.
