A heartbreaking scene unfolded off Noosa Heads coast when a dolphin and its calf became fatally entangled in a shark net.
The distressing footage was captured by Queensland local Julien Rossetto, a restaurant manager who witnessed the tragic incident in Australia.
The netting program, designed to deter sharks, has long been criticised for ensnaring whales, dolphins, turtles, and other non-target species.
The deaths come just a week after another entanglement incident in the same waters, intensifying calls for change from both locals and campaigners who claim the nets do more harm than good.
Julien said: “A dolphin and a calf got stuck and died in a shark net in Noosa Heads, Australia.”
Sharing the clip on social media, distressed viewers chimed in the comment section.
One viewer said, "So sad. The nets must go.”
Another viewer said: “I wish we could just cut the shark nets out. They are so unnecessary."
