Ukrainian drones just struck the Bashneft oil refinery in Ufa, nearly 1,400km inside Russian territory, sending shockwaves through Russia’s so-called “deep rear.” This marks the third major strike in the region in just one month, signaling a bold new phase in the Ukraine war.
At the same time, President Zelenskyy made headlines by urging Donald Trump to help broker peace, praising his Gaza ceasefire plan and calling on the U.S. to pressure Russia into negotiations.
Meanwhile, deadly strikes continue on both sides. At least five people were killed in Ukraine, including two inside a church. Russia claims it downed 42 Ukrainian drones, while Ukraine says it intercepted 54 of 78 drones launched by Russia overnight.
And in a twist, Cuba denies sending soldiers to the conflict, but confirms dozens of Cubans have been jailed for fighting as mercenaries.
From deep drone strikes to surprise diplomatic moves — this war is far from over.
