We want to prepare the joint for movement. We can do this by moving through healthy ranges of motion, there is a gel-like substance that coats the hip joint called synovial fluid. This fluid’s purpose is to lubricate and cushion joint surfaces. When performing this exercise, it allows the synovial fluid to “grease” the joint preparing it for movement. By placing the hips into these positions, it predisposes the joint to ranges of motion you may be using with your upcoming physical activity.
