Malappuram, Kerala – A shocking CCTV video from Edappal town in Kerala’s Malappuram district has gone viral, capturing a horrifying road accident involving a Toyota Etios Liva and a private bus. The incident occurred around 6:20 am on Wednesday, October 29.
According to reports, the car, driven by a youth from Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district, was attempting to overtake a lorry on a curved stretch of road marked with solid lines — a clear no-overtaking zone. As the driver tried to pass, a bus appeared from the opposite direction. Despite braking at the last moment, the car failed to swerve back into its lane and crashed head-on into the bus.
The impact was severe — the car’s front was completely crushed, its roof caved in, and one of the rear wheels broke off. Smoke was seen billowing from the engine moments after the crash, though no fire broke out.
CCTV footage shows locals and the bus driver rushing to the mangled car to rescue the trapped driver. The bystanders managed to pull him out, and he was taken to a nearby hospital. Miraculously, he escaped with only minor injuries.
Police and eyewitnesses confirmed that reckless overtaking on a blind curve caused the accident. The driver’s impatience, despite visible double solid lines, nearly cost him his life.
Authorities have once again urged motorists to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking in restricted zones, stressing that even a moment’s negligence can lead to disaster.
