Healthy PH forest cover needed to protect geothermal fields, says Energy chief
As the forest cover in the Philippines is thinning due to deforestation, urbanization, mining and quarrying, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin underscores the importance of a healthy forest cover to help the operations of geothermal fields that produce power and boosts the country's energy supply.
Garin issued the statement in an interview with The Manila Times during the Net Zero Carbon Alliance (NZCA) conference at the SMX SM Aura in Taguig. The Philippines has been experiencing the worst floods of late due to climate change blamed partly on denuded forests.
