Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop rejected reports suggesting that militant groups could 'seize' the capital, asserting that the security situation in Bamako is under 'complete control'.

"In foreign intelligence office houses, but also on television platforms, Mali is not the Bamako that you see in front of you. So it is important that those behind these terrorists understand that all this disinformation will have no effect," he said during a press conference on Thursday.

"They must wake up from their dreams and face reality. The reality is different. Mali is here," he continued.

Diop also outlined the government's strategy to address the fuel blockade and the security crisis.

"Gradually, you see hundreds of trucks arriving daily to resume the supply of Bamako and other localities. We will maintain these efforts," he explained.

It comes after Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) reportedly escalated attacks and blocked fuel convoys from neighboring countries, causing shortages in Bamako and other cities and disrupting transport and essential services.
