Pre-match press conference with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester United in the Premier League at Molineux Stadium.
Amorim warns that Wolves’ poor form and winless run this season mean “everything can happen”, stressing there is no team in Premier League history that does not eventually win a game and that United must be ready for a tough match despite their opponents sitting bottom of the table.
He repeatedly fields questions about Kobbie Mainoo, explaining that although Mainoo is homegrown and starts for England, “you love Kobbie” does not mean he will play him when he feels he should not, insisting he does not look at names and only chooses the best prepared players to win the game while defending his trust in the academy.
Amorim also reflects on United’s recent setbacks when trying to push into the top four and top five, admitting the team lost control after scoring, especially with second balls, and outlining how players like Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot, Matthijs de Ligt and Matheus Cunha fit into his plans. He denies the issue is mental, says he felt the environment more anxious than the team when leading, and insists United must improve tactically, be better in the next game and wait until January to see what they are able to do in the transfer market.
