Meeting Rost: Aloy seeks out Rost, who tells her she still has a crucial lesson to learn about survival and fighting for a purpose greater than herself. He instructs her to gather parts for fire arrows and meet him at the north gate beyond Mother's Heart.
Visiting Karst: Aloy decides to visit Karst, a trader who deals with outcasts. She trades a scrapper lens for a tripcaster, a special weapon. During their conversation, Karst reveals he was once an outcast for exploring metal ruins beyond the Embrace.
Waiting at the North Gate: Aloy meets Rost at the north gate. Explosions and shouts are heard from beyond the Embrace, indicating trouble. Rost tells Aloy they must wait until dark. Aloy expresses her desire not to shun Rost after the Proving, despite tribal law, and proposes a way to maintain contact in secret.
Encountering the Sawtooth: Rost leads Aloy outside the Embrace into the "true wilds". They discover a path of destruction and a massive Sawtooth machine, a new and dangerous creature that has killed many braves. Rost instructs Aloy to defeat the Sawtooth on her own as a test.
Defeating the Sawtooth: Aloy successfully kills the Sawtooth. Rost explains that the purpose of this dangerous test was to teach her that as a brave, her duty will be to fight for her tribe, not just for herself.
Preparing for the Proving: As dawn breaks, Rost tells Aloy that this is her last day as an outcast and advises her to prepare her mind for the challenges ahead. He will meet her again on the way to Mother's Heart. Aloy expresses her resolve to fight for something she truly believes in.
