It apparently wasn't just a TV show, "Perry Mason" was a call for people to become Supreme Court Justices and Senators. During Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court nomination hearing she told Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) that "Perry Mason" influenced her greatly. Later in the hearing, Senator Al Franken (D-MN) says he was a big "Perry Mason" fan too... and asks if Sotomayor can remember the one case Perry Mason lost.
