Hapur (Uttar Pradesh): Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the case of an unidentified woman’s decomposed body found inside a suitcase in a sugarcane field in the Pilkhuwa Kotwali area. In a joint operation, the Pilkhuwa police and the district SWAT team arrested two accused — a husband and wife — on Sunday evening.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Vineet Bhatnagar, the body was recovered on December 1, 2025, from a sugarcane field in the forest area of Chhijarsi village, near Rama Hospital on National Highway-9. Following the discovery, forensic experts, senior officers and local police teams reached the spot on the directions of the Superintendent of Police. Multiple teams were formed to identify the deceased and trace those involved.
Police arrested the accused near Duhri Cut. They were identified as Ankit, son of Amar Singh, a resident of Nawada Kalan under Simbhaoli police station in Hapur district, and his wife Kalista alias Kali, daughter of George Kerketta, a resident of Simdega district in Jharkhand. The deceased was identified as Sonia, a native of Jharkhand.
During interrogation, Ankit disclosed that he and his wife ran a firm named Srishti Enterprises and were involved in sending young women from poor and economically backward families in Jharkhand to Delhi-NCR as domestic helpers, allegedly collecting large sums of money in the process and often not paying the women.
Police said Sonia was brought from Jharkhand and was living with the accused. Ankit allegedly raped her and made an obscene video. When Sonia threatened to report the matter to the police, Ankit and his wife allegedly killed her on August 28, 2025, by beating her with kicks, punches and a stick.
To conceal the crime, the accused stuffed the body into a suitcase and dumped it in a sugarcane field in the Chhijarsi area. Police recovered the deceased’s mobile phone, three other mobile phones, two cash memo books and the stick used in the murder from the accused.
Investigators further revealed that another maid was present at the time of the murder and was allegedly threatened and forced to make a video confession near the body. Police said the accused later abandoned the suitcase near the Chhijarsi toll plaza on the Ghaziabad–Moradabad highway and fled.
ASP Vineet Bhatnagar said further legal proceedings are underway. The arresting team included Inspector-in-Charge Shyopal Singh along with officers from Pilkhuwa police station and the district SWAT team.
