Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) says Ukrainian intelligence agencies are using phone scams and online manipulation to coerce Russian citizens into committing acts of sabotage and terrorism.
According to reports, at least 10 Russian nationals across five regions—Komi, Astrakhan, Vologda, Volgograd, and Krasnodar—were detained after allegedly setting fire to law enforcement vehicles and interfering with energy and transport infrastructure.
The FSB says victims were first financially defrauded, then contacted by individuals posing as Russian law enforcement officers. Under the threat of being charged with treason, a crime punishable by life imprisonment, the citizens were coerced into committing illegal acts under the false accusation of financing Ukraine’s armed forces.
FSB Chief Alexander Bortnikov has warned that sabotage and terror-related activities linked to Ukrainian special services have increased significantly. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and warning that legitimate officials never contact people via messaging apps such as Telegram or WhatsApp to demand cooperation.
