Resident doctors across England have begun a five-day strike in a fresh escalation of a long-running dispute over pay and working conditions. Doctors say salaries have failed to keep pace with inflation and do not reflect their long hours, clinical responsibility and regulatory accountability.
The walkout adds further pressure on the National Health Service, with hospitals warning of disruption to routine care while emergency services remain staffed. Talks between doctors’ representatives and the government remain stalled as both sides defend their positions.
