Russia has, for the first time ever, deployed all eight of its nuclear-powered icebreakers at the same time to keep key Arctic shipping routes open during the harsh winter. These icebreakers are working mainly in the Gulf of Ob and the Yenisei Gulf — areas crucial for moving oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and mineral exports from Russia’s Arctic production zones.
