Protests erupted in Albania’s capital Tirana after prosecutors indicted Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku on alleged corruption charges linked to major infrastructure projects.

Demonstrators hurled firebombs at a government building housing Prime Minister Edi Rama’s office, demanding the government’s resignation. Police in riot gear guarded the building but did not disperse the crowd.

Balluku, who also serves as infrastructure minister, has denied wrongdoing and pledged to cooperate with the judiciary. Prosecutors have requested parliament lift her immunity to allow arrest, though no vote date has been set.

Political tensions have intensified as Albania’s anti-corruption agency presses ahead with the case.
