Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif briefed the government team on the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), stating that the entire bidding process was finalized through mutual consultation and conducted transparently via live broadcast for public viewing.
After detailed working by the Privatization Commission, the federal cabinet approved a reference price of Rs 100 billion. Through a competitive bidding process, a successful bid of Rs 135 billion was secured, resulting in the privatization of 75 percent shares of PIA.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the higher bid not only exceeded the reference price but also enhanced the valuation of the government’s remaining 25 percent stake, bringing the total valuation to approximately Rs 180 billion — marking a significant achievement for the national economy.
