Bihar: A ropeway under construction in Rohtas district collapsed during a trial run on Friday, raising serious concerns over safety and construction quality. The Rs 13-crore project’s pillar failed to bear the load, causing it and the trolley to fall, while the cable also snapped.
Officials said no one was inside the trolley at the time, preventing any casualties. The ropeway was being built to connect the Rohtas block headquarters with the historic Chaurasan (Rohiteshwar Mahadev) Temple and was scheduled to open in the new year.
Following the incident, work on the project has been suspended. Local residents questioned the quality of construction and demanded strict action against those responsible.
LJP MLA Murari Prasad Gautam condemned the collapse, alleging negligence by the department and engineers, and called for a thorough investigation and action against the guilty.
The Chaurasan Temple, an ancient Shiva shrine accessed by 84 steps, is a major religious and tourist site in Rohtas, attracting thousands of devotees every year.
