An ultralight aircraft pulling an advertising banner crashed into the sea off Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday afternoon, killing the pilot. Rescue teams from the Fire Department deployed jet skis, inflatable boats, divers, and aerial support to recover the body, which was sent to the medical examiner’s office for identification. Sonar equipment was also used to search for possible additional victims and wreckage. Security camera footage showed the plane diving nose-first into the water around 12:30 p.m. The Brazilian Air Force has opened an investigation into the cause of the crash.
