1989年4月から1990年3月までテレビ朝日ほかで全42話が放送された。『千年王国』や『世紀末大戦』、少年マガジン版のキャラクターやエピソードも登場した他、実写版のプロットが流用された話もあった。千年王国版の悪魔ベルゼブブと世紀末大戦（貸本版）の悪魔ロソンがいずれも登場している他、貸本版で名前のみ登場した東方の三賢人も登場している。また、ゲゲゲの鬼太郎や、そのアニメ第2・3作に流用済みのものも含め他の水木作品からの流用エピソードもある。

The series aired for 42 episodes from April 1989 to March 1990 on TV Asahi and other networks. Characters and episodes from Millennium Kingdom, End of the Century War, and the Shonen Magazine version appeared, and some episodes reused plots from the live-action adaptation. Both the demon Beelzebub from the Millennium Kingdom version and the demon Roson from the End of the Century War (rental book version) appear. The Three Wise Men of the East, who were only named in the rental book version, also make an appearance. Furthermore, episodes borrowed from other Mizuki Shigeru works are included, including those already used in GeGeGe no Kitaro and its second and third anime adaptations.
