Elderly devotees brave crowds, long lines to pray to Black Nazarene

Elderly devotees Tony Macalalad, 81, from Batangas, and Iluminada Ilucso, 71, a resident of Manila, line up at the Quirino Grandstand for the veneration of the image of the Black Nazarene, also known as 'Pahalik.' Manila police said that as of 1 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2026, the crowd has swelled to 12,000 and they expect this to get bigger into the night.
