On Friday, fires continued to devastate 3,000 hectares of forest in Argentina’s Patagonia, destroying homes and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of residents. Since Monday, flames have spread across a vast area of the Andean region, one of the country’s top tourist destinations. More than 350 firefighters and volunteers, supported by aircraft, are working to contain the blaze. This marks the first large-scale fire of 2026, coming just a year after the worst forest fires in decades, which razed tens of thousands of hectares, destroyed dozens of homes, and left one person dead.
