An avalanche of garbage, earth, and debris buried or trapped workers in low-lying structures at a landfill in Cebu City, killing two people, injuring at least 12 others, and leaving 38 still missing, officials said Friday.
Dozens of rescuers pulled 13 people alive overnight and continued searching for those believed to be trapped after the mound of garbage collapsed Thursday afternoon in Barangay Binaliw, according to officials and police. Most of those affected were landfill workers, although authorities said it remains unclear whether nearby residents or other individuals were also involved.
