Myanmar resumed the second phase of its first general elections in five years, expanding the process to 100 additional municipalities. Authorities excluded 65 municipalities where armed conflict prevents electoral activity. The Union Solidarity and Development Party, closely linked to the military government, dominates the process after winning 90 percent of the seats in the first phase. International observers question the legitimacy of the elections, which are being held while former leader Aung San Suu Kyi remains imprisoned.
