Pennies – The Five Pennies Opera 1972 (Italy, Progressive Rock)

This quintet from Rome formed in 1967. Their first single, a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer," was released on the small label Mark Tre. After a busy schedule of club and festival appearances, including the first Viareggio Pop Festival, their only album, released in March/April 1972, was sung entirely in English and heavily influenced by English pop and psychedelic music of the late 1960s, but went largely unnoticed. One of the songs on the album, "Photograph," was written for them by Amedeo Minghi before his solo career began, but Minghi was never part of the group. The group disbanded just as they were preparing the Italian version of the album with Minghi's help.
