Jun Gil, 83, a patient from Muntinlupa undergoes a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure and recovers after only 6 days. Gil told the Manila Times in an interview on Jan. 14, 2026 that despite living a healthy lifestyle, he was diagnosed with aortic stenosis or the narrowing of the heart's aortic valve that restricts blood flow after fainting at home. He underwent a TAVR—a minimally invasive procedure that replaces a narrowed aortic stenosis without open-heart surgery—under localized anesthesia, which allowed for a quicker recovery. Six days after the procedure, Gil was discharged from the hospital. He described his recovery as smooth and almost noninvasive, emphasizing the difference from traditional open-heart surgery. Gil is the 300th patient of St. Luke’s Medical Center’s (SLMC) TAVR procedure since its inception in 2012.
