Chip powerhouse Nvidia unveils Alpamayo, an AI platform specifically designed for autonomous driving that is set to be made available on electric Mercedes CLA models in the United States this year.
The car offers fully automated driving — while keeping drivers in command and requiring them to lightly touch the steering wheel — thanks to an onboard computer designed and powered by Nvidia technology.
The images were shot during a demonstration for AFP in December and the self-driving Mercedes moves through congested San Francisco traffic with a human safety driver only intervening to navigate around an ambulance stopped in the middle of the road.
