German military staff at Greenland's Arctic Command
Military personnel, including German soldiers, arrived in Greenland on Jan. 16, 2026. Video showed people wearing military uniforms with the German flag on them boarding a bus outside Greenland’s Arctic Command in Nuuk. European nations this week sent small numbers of military personnel to the island at Denmark's request as US President Donald Trump says Greenland is vital to US security and has not ruled out the use of force to take it.
