As Iran faces its most intense unrest in decades, authorities are now making a major announcement. They say they’ve dismantled a terrorist cell responsible for an armed attack in the heart of Tehran.
According to Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, the group infiltrated the country through Iran’s western borders and struck on the night of January 8. Officials say the attackers targeted a police station in Tehran, firing more than 850 rounds with military-grade weapons in an attempt to seize the building and its armory.
Iranian authorities claim the attack killed several police officers, Basij members, and civilians. Iran says security forces launched an immediate operation to track down the suspects.
