Authorities in Chile’s central-southern region have declared multiple red alerts and ordered massive evacuations as wildfires spread quickly across the Biobío and Ñuble regions. The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED) activated the SAE messaging system to instruct residents to evacuate immediately due to the direct threat to homes. In Biobío, the most critical situation is in Concepción, where the “Trinitarias” fire is showing extreme behavior. Meanwhile, in Ñuble, flames have forced preventive evacuations in rural areas. Fire crews and brigades from the National Forestry Corporation are working intensively to contain active hotspots.
