Iran's government says the death toll from its crackdown on protesters has risen to 5,000 people and is claiming 500 of those were security personnel. Human rights groups say they have different numbers, with US-based HRANA saying it's still confirming over 4,000 deaths on top of several thousand it's already confirmed. It also says Tehran has detained 24,000 protesters. Tehran says Israel and the US are behind the mass demonstrations, which started in response to economic conditions.
