Residents in Tokyo have welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s decision on Monday (Jan 19) to call for a national election for Feb 8 to seek voters backing for increased spending, tax cuts and a new mandate for her to continue to lead the nation.
The election will be held more than two years earlier than the October 2028 deadline.
