Accident rates in smart lane zones on highways are extremely low when compared to the number of vehicles that use the lane, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He told the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Jan 21) that studies show a significant drop in accidents at smart lane locations after activation, with most incidents attributed to human error rather than road design.
Nanta added that safety patrols by highway concessionaires and the Malaysian Highway Authority are conducted before smart lanes are opened to traffic.
