On Wednesday, Seoul Central District Court sentenced former South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to 23 years in prison for his involvement in the December 2024 declaration of martial law under then-President Yoon Suk Yeol. Han was found guilty of insurrection-related charges, including failing to convene the cabinet meeting required by law for such a declaration. At 76, he becomes the first member of Yoon’s cabinet to be sentenced for his role in the imposition of martial law.
